Knowing the difference between a Hit, Page View and Unique visitor is vital in analysing your web site’s performance.
When a visitor lands on your web site, they are considered a Unique Visitor to that page. If they leave your web pages and then return a few minutes later, they are not considered a new visitor, and are still counted as the one single unique visitor.
This is the only true representation that accurately provides how many visitors you are getting to your Web site and calculates the individual pages on your site.
